Background and Challenge

Treehouse, a leading organization in Washington addressing the academic and essential support needs of youth in foster care, sought to create a powerful documentary titled “Resilience in Foster Care.” This film aimed to highlight the personal journeys of five alumni navigating the foster care system, showcasing their resilience and the need for systemic changes to better support these youths. The documentary was set to premiere during National Foster Care Month, on May 11, with a free screening and panel discussion at Majestic Bay Theatres in Ballard. Treehouse, through their media and PR management at KD Hall Communications, needed expert post-production services to ensure the film was polished and impactful, ready for its public debut.

Overview

Solution and Execution

KD Hall Communications enlisted JSB Video to handle the post-production work for “Resilience in Foster Care.” Our role was crucial in bringing the raw footage to life, ensuring that the final product was both emotionally compelling and professionally produced. The post-production process involved editing to craft a cohesive narrative from hours of footage, focusing on the personal stories of the five foster care alumni.

To bring the story together, additional filming was conducted, including on-camera script reads. These script reads were used as bookends for the documentary as well as narrations throughout, providing context and continuity to the narratives shared by the alumni. Sound design was enhanced to ensure clear and impactful storytelling, including the voices of the alumni and any accompanying music or sound effects. Color grading was adjusted to create a consistent and visually appealing look throughout the documentary. Graphics and titles were added to provide context and highlight important information.

Throughout the post-production phase, JSB Video maintained close communication with KD Hall Communications and Treehouse, incorporating feedback and making adjustments to ensure the documentary met all of Treehouse’s standards and expectations.
