When Aneden Gives needed a grant application video for the Pivotal Ventures Action for Women's Health competition, the stakes were real: a competitive funding process, a 90-second time limit, strict submission requirements, and a mission too important to reduce to a generic pitch.
We partnered closely with their team to shape a story that was clear, credible, and genuinely human. The result helped Aneden Gives advance to the next round of the grant process, and the video has kept working for them ever since.
Background & Challenge
Aneden Gives works to expand access to fertility care for women of color, a mission that is both deeply personal and underserved. In early 2025, the organization was invited to submit a video application for the Pivotal Ventures Action for Women's Health grant, a selective and competitive funding opportunity.
The invitation was an opportunity, but it came with significant pressure. The video needed to earn trust quickly, represent the organization's credibility to a sophisticated review panel, and do it all within a format that left no room for vagueness or filler.
Three specific challenges defined the project:
- Brevity without sacrifice. The final video had to land under 90 seconds while communicating the organization's mission, impact, and vision with enough depth to be convincing.
- Strict technical compliance. The submission required precise formatting, accessibility standards, and an exact final runtime, with no margin for error.
- Tone. The video needed to feel human and hopeful, not polished to the point of feeling corporate, and not so raw that it undermined the organization's credibility with funders.
Our Role
We came in as a production partner, not just a crew. From the first conversation, our focus was on understanding what Aneden Gives needed to communicate and how to shape that into a story the grant reviewers would trust.
Here is how the project unfolded:
- Story development. We worked directly with Board Chair Olu Fagbemiro and team members Giulia Volini and Catherine Callahan to clarify the core message. Rather than scripting a polished pitch, we helped the team find the most honest and compelling version of their story, one that would resonate with funders without feeling rehearsed.
- Interview and original footage. We conducted a guided on-camera interview designed to draw out natural, credible responses. We also captured original footage to give the video visual grounding and warmth.
- Integrating existing assets. The client had photos and video they had gathered over time. We wove those materials into the edit to add depth and authenticity, making the most of what already existed rather than starting from scratch.
- Fast, iterative editing. Post-production moved quickly. We delivered multiple rounds of edits within days, staying responsive as feedback and requirements evolved throughout the process.
- Compliance and captioning. We handled precise captioning to meet accessibility standards, ensured the video was formatted for platform readability, and delivered an exact final runtime of 1:29, meeting the grant's technical specifications without compromise.
Throughout the project, we stayed closely aligned with the team, adjusting quickly when requirements shifted and keeping the process as straightforward as possible for a small nonprofit working under deadline pressure.
Results
Aneden Gives advanced to the next round of the Pivotal Ventures grant process. The client credited the video directly as a factor in that outcome.
"We got through the first round of the application. So they loved your video!" - Olu Fagbemiro, Board Chair, Aneden Gives
Beyond the grant submission, the video has continued to deliver value. The team repurposed it for donor outreach and broader marketing, extending the life of a single production investment well past its original purpose.
That kind of lasting utility is something we aim for in every project. A well-made nonprofit video should not be a one-time deliverable. When the story is told clearly and the production is done right, the asset keeps working, in pitch meetings, on donation pages, in email campaigns, and anywhere else the organization needs to make its case.
For Aneden Gives, one video served multiple goals. That is the standard we hold ourselves to.
