Overview

  • Project: Africans In Sports
  • Client: Africans In Sports
  • Category: Video Solutions
  • Sub-Category: Talk Show & Documentary Series
  • Location: Multi-country (Africa & diaspora)

Background & Challenge

African athletes have long been underrepresented in sports media. Their journeys — the cultural roots, the sacrifices, the global ambitions — rarely made it past brief highlights or transfer news. Africans In Sports was founded to change that. The concept was sparked by a Nigerian benefactor who watched African players thriving in the NBA and realized almost nothing existed to tell their full stories.

The vision was ambitious: a long-form, multi-season media brand built around in-depth interviews, documentary segments, and cultural context. Not a recap show. Not a highlight reel. A platform that treated African athletes with the same depth and dignity as any major sports franchise.

The production challenge matched the ambition. Launching a series from scratch meant solving for:

  • Scale: Multiple seasons of content, each requiring consistent quality and narrative cohesion
  • Geography: Shoots spanning multiple countries across Africa and the diaspora
  • Brand identity: Establishing a distinct visual and editorial voice with no prior template to follow
  • Logistics: Coordinating travel, local crews, talent, and post-production across time zones

Our Role

JSB Video didn't just produce this series. We co-founded it.

From day one, we joined Africans In Sports as production partners and co-founders, serving as head of production across the project's full lifecycle. That meant ownership — not just execution. We were responsible for shaping the creative direction, building the production infrastructure, and maintaining the quality standard across every episode, every season, every country.

What We Built Over 2.5 Years

Over the course of 2.5 years, we produced five full seasons of content. The series, hosted by Chris Strachan (COSeezy), featured long-form interviews and documentary segments with athletes across Africa and the diaspora. Our scope covered every stage of production:

  • Creative development: Establishing the show's format, tone, and editorial identity
  • Pre-production: Research, scripting, scheduling, and travel logistics
  • Multi-country production: On-the-ground filming across multiple African nations and diaspora communities
  • Interview production: Conducting and capturing in-depth athlete conversations that went beyond surface-level sports coverage
  • Post-production: Editing, color, sound, and narrative shaping across five seasons of content

Consistency at Scale

One of the most significant challenges in long-form series production is maintaining a consistent look, feel, and editorial standard across shoots that happen months apart, in different countries, with different local conditions. That consistency doesn't happen by accident.

We built production systems that traveled with us — workflows, visual standards, and storytelling frameworks that ensured episode five of season five felt as cohesive as episode one of season one. The result was a series that felt like a unified body of work, not a collection of disconnected segments.

Results

Africans In Sports grew from a concept into a recognized platform in African sports media. The series built a dedicated audience and strong social engagement, resonating with both viewers and the athletes whose stories it told.

The clearest measure of the series' impact: PlayersTV acquired the show, significantly expanding its reach and validating the quality and cultural relevance of the content. Distribution at that level doesn't happen for projects that cut corners.

"They brought our vision to life... We couldn't have done it without JSB Video's partnership and production leadership." - Chris "COSeezy" Strachan, Host, Africans In Sports

What This Project Demonstrates

For prospective clients, the Africans In Sports series is proof of what JSB Video can do when the scope is large, the timeline is long, and the stakes are high:

  • End-to-end series production: From creative concept through multi-season delivery
  • International production capability: Coordinating shoots across multiple countries with consistent results
  • Long-form storytelling at scale: Maintaining narrative quality across 2.5 years and five seasons
  • Distribution-ready output: Content that earned acquisition by a major sports media platform

If you're building a video series, a documentary, or a long-form content brand and need a production partner who can lead it from day one, we'd like to hear about your project.
